Highlands Easter Celebration

I would just like to say that my church is, well, unusual. The morning service was not really all that different from what you might experience at other churches, except for the part when our pastor made persimmon-eating faces on purpose, but then we all went out to the Summers' house for a covered-dish lunch. Again, not all that unusual. Until it came to the paper-confetti-filled-egg hunt, where everyone smashes what they find on everyone else's heads. It was not pretty, especially after Larry decided to smash an egg-filled-egg on our pastor Travis' head, and Travis got about 10 lbs. of flour and dumped it on Larry, and then they got wet somehow, and were wrestling on the ground making pie crusts by the time most of the confetti eggs were found.

Everyone calmed down and ate and most people left, but before the day was over, one of the founding mothers of our church (Linda) had thrown a water balloon at the now-dry Travis, who promptly soaked her with the garden hose, Easter raiment notwithsanding. I...got wet too. Because a 4-year old lied to me. I'm never trusting children again.

Ahh, yes. And the female bonding moment when several of us went behind the bushes to remove the confetti and bits of eggshell from our undergarmets...

Thanks for your comments on my blog. I was really touched by what you said--sometimes you don't even realize in life when you've made a difference.

Funny...those Tolkien settings affected my life as well. I had a huge crush on the guy who was to become my husband for a long time, and for a long time he wasn't interested. Then one night, my roommate and I invited him and a couple of other guys over, and I played those songs for him. He was intrigued by them, and we got into a long discussion about that (and about the fact that we were reading the same 3,000+ page novel by Marcel Proust). That was the night he realized he was interested in me--we had a pre-DTR the next night, and two weeks later, we had our real DTR.

Anyway, it's funny that I've been reading your blog and Funke's blog, and just now realized that you were my cee-wee's. I wish I had been around at Covenant when you two were there, I have the feeling we would have been good friends!
