This was a good week for reading books. I like to keep several on hand, for when I have fifteen minutes between two meetings, or am sitting by the phone waiting for a return call, or am trying to avoid staring at my macaroni noodles until they boil.
So I finished The Perilous Gard by Elizabeth Marie Pope and The Wizard in the Tree by Lloyd Alexander. I am in the middle of A Midwife's Tale (sort of like A Knight's Tale, but more Puritan and Womanly) by Laurel Thatcher Ulrich, The Once and Future King by T.H. White, and spent far too long last night skimming through Fearfully and Wonderfully Made by Paul Brand and Philip Yancey.
That last one is one of the most worthwhile books I've ever read and re-read. Ask me about it sometime.
Yesterday, I had no computer in my office, and I had a sink that would overflow even when I wasn't running any water in it. Today, I have a computer in my office, and my sink is doing its quiet, still duty in a manner beautiful to behold. I love Tech Services and the Plumbing Shop! You know, faculty get the glory, but institutional staff get many blessings as I thank God for them.
I love my job. And now, I love my bed.
Posted by tuggy at 09.14.04 00:11I miss you, stupid! I can't wait for October 1st! I'm also glad you called at 2:30am the other night. Yay for late night sleep depriving phone calls. I just wish I could remember if I was witty or not. Do you have time for a date this week?
Posted by: The Mad Goat Herself at 09.14.04 14:22wow. you have great friends.
and i'm still musing over the relationship between gathering stones together and reading good books. i like the image. i also like the sound of those books, by the way. i'm reading "what's so amazing about grace" by yancey right now. good.
Posted by: bob at 09.22.04 14:35Yeah for the once and future king! It is sitting on my shelf awaiting rereading because the only part I really remember very clearly is when Wart was turned into an ant and his thoughts were broadcasted on the ant's public radio station via his antennae.
Hey Tuggy!
I'm reading textbooks and lesson plan books and Till We Have Faces, mulling over it for my World Lit sophs.
I'm a secretary's daughter. And I did BEST for 2 years. Yay for the non-faculty; they really do grease the wheels of a place and keep it running.
